Getting started with Workspaces

A Workspace is a private Linux machine for repositories, development tools, and coding agents. It is billed separately from Layerbase databases, from $10/month. You do not need a paid database plan.

1. Choose and create your machine

Sign in and open Workspaces. Pick a size and location, review the monthly price and beta terms, and complete checkout. Applicable taxes appear at checkout. Setup usually takes 5 to 8 minutes; wait for the dashboard to report that the machine is ready.

Compare the available sizes and prices before purchasing.

2. Open a terminal

Open the Terminal tab in the dashboard. You do not need an SSH key for the browser terminal. To connect over SSH or from a remote editor, add your public SSH key and use the connection details in the dashboard.

The terminal session survives closing the browser tab. Reboots and stopped machines still interrupt running processes. See the terminal and file-upload guide.

3. Install tools and connect repositories

Choose a supported coding agent in the dashboard, install it, and follow its sign-in instructions. Installation and authentication are separate steps. Your provider account, subscription limits, and API charges still apply; the Workspace price does not include agent usage. Some tools also offer free models.

Connect the Layerbase GitHub App and select the repositories the Workspace can access. Add shared instructions in the dashboard to give supported agents your project rules. Keep credentials out of repositories.

4. Save your work and manage billing

Each Workspace renews monthly until you cancel. Stopping it does not pause billing. Cancel renewal from the Workspace billing controls when you want to stop future charges; access continues through the period you paid for.

Keep your own backups. Push commits and export important files before paid access ends. Workspace files may be permanently deleted afterward, and a failure can also cause data loss during beta. Database backup guarantees do not cover files on your Workspace.

Beta limits and help

Workspaces is a development preview without an uptime SLA. Read the early adopter terms and acceptable use policy. Direct outbound SMTP is blocked; use an HTTPS email API as described in the email guide.
